Activities include: lobbying Congress for LGBT issues, helping with campaigns of LGBT-friendly public servants, community outreach, and member recruitment.

This is a non-profit legal organization that is committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of LGBTQ+ people and those with HIV through impact litigation, education and public policy work. If you want something that is both a meaningful volunteer opportunity and an experience/resume builder, this one is for you.

Planned Parenthood
You may think of Planed Parenthood only as an abortion provider, but in reality they do so much more: they provide contraceptive services, health screenings, prenatal care, STD-prevention services, and much more. Their services extend to men and non-female individuals as well, so don't write them off as only a women's healthcare provider. In light of the recent election, this organization especially needs your help.

Rosie's Place
Rosie's Place is a women's shelter that targets poor, homeless, battered, and/or LGBT women. Volunteer opportunities here are more time-intensive than some other options on this page.

Fenway Health: LGBT Helpline, Peer-Listening Line
To volunteer as a -- for the LGBT Helpline and Peer Listening Line, you must: be 16-25, self-identify as LGBTQ+, and be able to commit to a 2 ½ hour shift every other week for at least six months. It may seem like a lot of work, but the impact that you can have simply by listening to someone is enormous. It's also a much more discrete method of volunteering than attending an event.

Boston Alliance of Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender Youth (BAGLY)
This group focuses on providing a safe social space for LGBTQ+ youth. They offer community volunteer opportunities, access to exclusively queer social spaces, and internships.

American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)
This is not an LGBT-specific organization, but is an active defender of the constitutional rights and liberties of all people. There are a wide range of issues to support, and a variety of ways to do so. Their website also has some excellent "know your rights" resources that you are encouraged to read.

Jane Doe
The Massachusetts Coalition Against Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence advocates on behalf of victims and offers confidential, crisis and long-term support and services. Volunteer opportunities include: policy advocacy, participation in awareness campaigns, and event participation.

Hispanic Black Gay Coalition (HBGC)
This group focuses on building Black and Latinx LGBTQ+ communities. They offer some volunteer opportunities, as well as the chance to become a mentee – you're paired with a Black/Latinx LGBT professional who guides you through your struggles.

A statewide grassroots advocacy organization dedicated to combating LGBT-specific discrimination. Volunteer opportunities include: writing to your local newspaper, contacting your legislator, sharing your story on the website, and volunteering at events.

This is an advocacy and education group that seeks to end trans discrimination by: promoting leadership within trans communities; educating the public, media, and institutions about trans issues; and pressuring policy makers to make changes at the institutional, state, and local levels.
